Police are concerned by the number of motorists who continue to ignore the warnings and drink and drive following a weekend traffic operation at Palm Beach.
Operation North Lima Sled was run over the weekend and involved local officers from Palm Beach, Mudgeeraba, Robina and Coolangatta assisted by officers from the Road Policing Command.
Acting Inspector Chris Ahearn said during the operation a driver was detected four times the legal limit allegedly registering a breath test of .218%.
“There were also 21 drivers detected drink driving and five people detected driving under the influence of a drug which is an unacceptable and disturbing result.
“These types of operations will continue to reinforce the message to all drivers to be responsible and not to put their lives and the lives of other road users at risk by ignoring the rules.
“This is about safety and saving lives and we will work hard to do that,” said Acting Inspector Ahearn.
Over the two day operation which focused on the Gold Coast Highway and Thrower Drive at Palm Beach there were a total of 3272 random breath test conducted, 78 random drug tests done, three disqualified/unlicensed/unregistered offences detected and 51 traffic infringement notices issued for speeding, unregistered and other life endangering offences.
