Police are urging motorists, parents included, to ensure children’s safety in the vicinity of schools next week as students return from holidays.
The beginning of term often brings challenges with parents and carers often inadvertently adding to the traffic issues, but placing a strain on the roads and surrounds nonetheless.
Extra patrols will be operating in the schools in the Runaway Bay area and people are reminded that police are only trying to keep everyone safe.
Senior Sergeant Nick Sellars said that police would be happy not to have to issue any tickets during the operation.
“I urge everyone to abide by the reduced speed limits, parking restrictions and by considering the residents in the streets surrounding the schools etc by not parking on lawns or across driveways.
“We work with the school community to address issues and we regularly find the worst offenders are parents and carers,” Senior Sergeant Sellars said.
