Detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, working in cooperation with Australian Customs and Border Protection Service arrested a man yesterday in relation to the alleged importation of a border controlled substance.
It will be alleged the man was located in possession of two litres of a chemical used to produce amphetamines.
The investigation which was code-named operation Lima Hummingbird focused on the importation of chemicals and glassware for the production of amphetamines.
Yesterday’s arrest resulted in a number of search warrants being executed on the Gold Coast.
Police will allege the man is part of a criminal syndicate importing glassware and precursor chemicals for the production of amphetamines.
A 61-year-old Mermaid Beach man has been charged with unlawful possession of a relevant substance.
He is expected to face the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
Investigations are continuing.
