Police from Runaway Bay were kept busy overnight after a 52-year-old local man was arrested for a high range drink driving offence.

It will be alleged that in the early hours of Tuesday May 21, Police observed a vehicle driving north on Bayview Street, Runaway Bay. Police saw that the vehicle was being driven in an erratic manner and two of the vehicle’s tyres were completely flat. There was also evidence of panel damage to the front of the vehicle.

The male driver was breath tested and subsequently arrested for having a breath alcohol concentration of .315%.

Sergeant Nev Stretton said the male driver in this case was grossly intoxicated and basically incoherent.

“It is beyond comprehension that someone would consider getting behind the wheel of a car and drive after drinking so much,” said Sergeant Nev Stretton.

Police made patrols of the immediate area for evidence of what the offender’s vehicle collided with but failed to locate anything with any damage.

Runaway Bay Police will continue to target drink driving. If you continue to drink drive it’s not a matter of if you will be caught but when.

The male driver in this case has been issued bail to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on June 4.
