On Sunday Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club members welcomed Senior Constable Meredith Spencer and Senior Constable Kurt Foessel to utilise their facility as a hub for the upcoming All Girls Project Booyah.
The matter was raised today during the clubs Annual General Meeting and the members decided to allow the use of their amazing clubhouse.
After a chance meeting at the PBC High School ANZAC ceremony Nicole told me all about Pacific Surf Club and how fantastic it was, we were looking for a new hub and I thought it would be a perfect venue for what we do.
We have previously used Tallebudgera Surf Club and they were very generous. It is vital that we engage the local community in these projects. We are working with at risk and disengaged teenage girls and this is a great opportunity for them to see that their are other options in the community for them and that people do care.
During the 18 weeks the girls will undertake a Certificate 2 in hospitality. On the days that they attend the clubhouse they are with Senior Constable Meredith Spencer and a teacher from Queensland Education where they will receive mentoring, literacy and numeracy, health and fitness and even deportment.
The goal is to get them re-engaged in school, part or full time work and or trainee or apprenticeships, and hope for a brighter future. The success rate has been very high and we invest a lot of time and effort into them. We are so grateful to the club members for allowing us to use their facility. It will be a great place to conduct our programs.
