Investigators from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad, working in partnership with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service have this morning apprehended a 63-year-old man allegedly importing 1,200 precursor tablets valued at approximately $12,000.
Major and Organised Crime Squad officers, together with officers from the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service intercepted the man when he allegedly went to collect the item this morning. Officers then executed a search warrant at his Mermaid Beach residence.
“The partnerships between State and Commonwealth law enforcement agencies has resulted in the identification of a criminal syndicate allegedly importing precursor chemicals for amphetamine production.
“This interception has impacted upon the ability of these drugs to be produced and distributed into the Queensland community. Those importing drugs and chemicals through the postal service should be aware that through joint activities of the Queensland Police Service and our law enforcement partners, you will be identified and will face the consequences of your actions,” Detective Inspector Scott Knowles of the Major and Organised Crime Squad said.
The man has been charged with one count of importing a tier one drug and one count of fraud and is expected to appear before the courts tomorrow morning.
