Grand Final winners The Cooly Cavemen

The inaugural Gold Coast Emergency Services Touch Football touch footy carnival was held at Firth Park, Mudgeeraba on May 27. The fundraiser raised $4000 in aid of Senior Constable Ian Callaghan in addition to supporting the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Senior Constable Callaghan, a member of the QPS Firearms Training Section (FOST), is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and is in urgent need of medical treatment overseas.

Police officers from stations and units throughout the Gold Coast formed teams to battle it out on the footy field.  After some hard fought games, Coomera and Coolangatta made it to the grand final, with the Cooly Cavemen reigning supreme.

Constable Adrian Ah Fook from Gold Coast RAP was awarded the title of player of the series with stellar performances throughout the day.

Organisers plan to continue to hold the annual carnival on the eve of State of Origin Game 1, with the invitation extended to members of the Queensland Fire Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, State Emergency Service, New South Wales Police and Australian Federal Police to join next year.

Donations in support of Senior Constable Callaghan can be made via a fundraising page.
