On Saturday August 15, Jacobs Well Police Beat officers joined forces with the Gold Coast Water Police and other Gold Coast officers for an operation targeting boating safety at the Jacobs Well and Cabbage Tree Point boat ramps and surrounding water-ways.
Police conducted 68 breath tests with one skipper breath tested on the water returning a positive result, for which he was subsequently charged.
Police also conducted drug testing with four persons returning a positive results. One person was also charged with possessing a dangerous drug.
Police took the opportunity to provide education in boating safety and inspected items such as life jackets. Many vessels were identified as having faulty life jackets that were worn and would have failed to provide floatation in an emergency. Police remind all boaties to check your safety equipment on a regular basis.
