Lose your tools, Lose your job was the conversation starter at Bunnings Nerang this morning. Volunteers In Policing, District Crime Prevention Unit and Bunnings staff had an early start so that they could catch up with tradies and talk about vehicle and toolbox security. Offenders often act on easy or tempting opportunities and tradespeople have been targeted. Some security tips are:
- Purchase a strong durable toolbox
- Ensure your toolbox is secured with suitable hardwearing lock/s at all times
- Secure the toolbox to the tray of your vehicle so it can’t be lifted out
- Immobilise the trailer when not fixed to a vehicle – and if possible park out of sight
- Keep your trailer and contents locked and secure at all times to deter theft
- Lock items of value away from sight
- Lock and secure your garage and tool/garden shed
- Photograph your property as a record of purchase in case your items are stolen
- Mark your property, it proves ownership and makes it difficult for an offender to offload it
- Remember to secure your tools no matter where you are. Open toolboxes and vehicles on job sites, houses and streets are easy targets
