Two women have been arrested by police after crashing a stolen vehicle at Burleigh Heads this morning.

Around 3am police observed a 4WD and a car acting suspiciously at the rear of a pizza store on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicles but both vehicles fled the scene.

A short time later a stationary marked police vehicle again observed the same car, which was confirmed as stolen, in the car park of a Gold Coast Highway restaurant at Burleigh Heads.

Police allege the vehicle accelerated towards the police car before narrowly missing it, mounting the gutter and striking the embankment.

Two 26-year-old women from Alexandra Hills and Mountain Creek are currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Investigations are continuing.
