Officers from Southport station are disappointed that the message regarding the Fatal Five is being ignored. Operation Traverse was conducted over the weekend in the Southport Division targeting dangerous and intoxicated drivers. A total of six people were charged with Drink Driving with a further 28 infringement notices being issued for a range of offences. Six drivers were also issued with a notice to appear in court for driving offences.

Acting Senior Sergeant Wiblen said that police want people to enjoy the holiday season.

“Christmas is a traditional time of celebration. Southport Police will continue to work hard to remove dangerous and intoxicated drivers from the road. Police wish that all families have a safe and merry Christmas, free of tragedy and road trauma,” Acting Senior Sergeant Wiblen said.

Police will continue to conduct operations throughout the Christmas and New Year period and remind drivers to think before they drink and to organise alternative transport if they plan on drinking.
