An 82-year-old Nerang woman will be required to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday February 2, after allegedly providing police with a blood alcohol concentration well in excess of the prescribed legal limit.
Police were called to Birribi Avenue, Nerang at 5.30pm on Thursday January 14 after the vehicle the woman was driving was stopped by a concerned motorist due to her driving behaviour.
Witnesses told police that the woman had crashed her car a number of times into roadside curbs and had caused damage to her vehicle.
Upon police arrival it will be alleged that the woman was found to be sitting at the wheel of her vehicle and was displaying signs that she may have consumed alcohol.
A subsequent roadside breath test was conducted which confirmed that the woman had consumed too much alcohol to be driving her car on a road.
The woman was transported to the Nerang Police Station to undertake a breath analysis test which revealed that she had a blood alcohol reading of 0.128%.
There is no excuse for any person to drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol as the effects of doing so are well documented and the chances of causing significant damage or trauma to others is substantially increased.
Fortunately, in this instance, no one was hurt and only minor damage was caused to the woman’s car.
The woman’s drivers licence was immediately suspended by police.
