Senior Constables Brendon Kelly and Julie House attended the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre last week and conducted a drug awareness presentation to the patrons.
A Drug Kit from Brisbane was obtained and used during the presentation to help with identification of different substances. The primary focus was to communicate with the public and educate them primarily on some of the problems relating to the drug ‘ICE’ and issues stemming from its use within our community.
Flyers and arm bands from www.icefight.com.au were obtained and distributed.
Senior Constables Brendon Kelly and Julie House were also able to assist family members who stated that they had concerns in regards to their children/grandchildren and we were able to refer them to drug rehabilitation resources such as Head Space and Family Drug Support.
There was plenty of general interest from the public and from concerned parents wanting to know what early signs to look for when it comes to drug use. There was very good feedback from the general public and overall it was a positive education tool that reached a vast audience in the Runway Bay division.
