A man is currently assisting police with investigations into a fire that damaged a Labrador house last night.
Around 11.20pm emergency sevices were called to the Muir Street residence following reports that a house was on fire.
The fire was extinguished but interior of the house sustained extensive damage.
No one was in the house at the time or injured.
A man was located nearby and was taken into custody. It will be alleged that the man was also found to be in the possession of a knife.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing with it being treated as suspicious at this time.
A 32-year-old Labrador man has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place and is expected to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today.
