Over the weekend (Friday to Sunday 12-14 August) Runaway Bay Police with assistance from the Random Drug Testing Unit performed an operation targeting impaired drivers.
The operation concentrated on the Biggera Waters area and resulted in over 1200 motorists being breath tested and 67 drivers being drug tested.
“The operation resulted in 25 offenders being detected on a range of charges including drink driving, drug driving, disqualified driving and drug possession offences. Three drivers were found to be over the legal limit and a further 16 drivers were detected with drugs in their system. The highest reading recorded was a local man who had a breath alcohol concentration of .19%. Alarmingly the detection rate for drug driving was high”, said Sgt Nev STRETTON of Runaway Bay Police Station.
All the offending drivers have been issued notices to appear to attend Southport Court during the month of September.
Further operations of a similar nature are scheduled for the coming months targeting drunk and drugged drivers.
