Southern Gold Coast bike shops are supporting Road Safety Week by making the ‘Share the Road – Stay wider of the Rider’ stickers available in their stores.

This little bicycle is a reminder that the road is no place to clown around, an important message for both motorists and cyclists.
As cycling becomes more popular both recreationally and as a sport, two-wheeled traffic is increasing. As a recreational and charity cyclist, I have seen an improvement in motorists giving the required one metre in the 50 km/h zone and 1.5 over 60 km/h zone.
No one is out there with a tape measure, but a general guide to help motorists is that most bike lanes are 1.5 metres wide, some older ones are still 1.2 metres wide.
This law is for the safety of all road users, school children, workers and sports cyclists.
The ‘Stay wider of the rider’ stickers are available from Palm Beach Supercycle, Currumbin Cycles and Storm Cycles at Tugun, Palm Beach Police Station or the Elanora Police Beat.
