On Wednesday September 7, police from Pacific Fair Police Beat attended the “Chicks at the Flicks” movie preview at Event Cinemas Pacific Fair.
Police interacted with around 500 women discussing various issues and gave a short talk regarding personal safety, focusing specifically on how to plan their evenings so that everyone has a great night and gets home safely.
Senior Constable Sarah McGuinness said speaking at events like these are very beneficial to keep positive interaction and crime prevention messaging occurring.
“We had women take brochures on domestic violence and other things that perhaps they didn’t feel comfortable or have the ability to attend a police station for,” Senior Constable McGuinness said.
Some crime prevention tips from the night included:
- Advise your friends on where you are parking your car prior to attending so that you are all in the same vicinity and not walking back to your car alone.
- Trust your instincts – If you have a bad feeling regarding an environment or person remove yourself from that situation.
- Tell someone of where you are and what time you will be at your destination.
