The first weekend of celebrations for schoolies concluded last night with school leavers enjoying the entertainment on offer in Surfers Paradise.

While police were generally pleased with crowd behaviour, they continue to remind school leavers to act responsibly, stay safe and watch their mates.

Overnight police arrested 11 schoolies on 17 offences 8 of which were for drug possession. Seven schoolies were issued with liquor infringements notices.

There were 23 people arrested on 29 charges which were non-schoolies. The majority of the non-schoolies arrests related to public nuisance and drug possession incidents.

Police continue to remind school leavers that the possession and consumption of drugs is illegal, dangerous and could have fatal consequences.

Drug detection dogs will be utilised throughout the policing response to Schoolies and police will not hesitate to take enforcement action against anyone found in possession of, supplying, trafficking or producing dangerous drugs.
