Police are currently investigating an incident in which a vehicle entered the Nerang River at Chevron Island this evening.
Initial information suggests at 8.20pm, an unidentified vehicle was observed to enter the canal off Darrambal Street.
Police were immediately on scene, with Gold Coast Water Police and the District Duty Officer entering the water in an effort to reach the vehicle.
Officers were unable to locate the vehicle which is in around seven metres of water.
Dive squad officers from Brisbane will attend the scene this evening.
At this stage, it is unclear as to whether anyone was inside the vehicle at the time.
Officers are currently searching for a group of juveniles who were seen running from the vicinity of the scene.
Investigations are continuing.
