The Gold Coast District, Cross Cultural Liaison Unit received a Suncorp Safer QLD Community Grant in conjunction with Gold Coast Suns AFL Club.

The six bi-monthly domestic family violence education dinners are an opportunity for culturally and linguistically diverse community leaders to attend to reeducate and empower their community members about domestic and family violence.

Representatives from the following stakeholder groups are kindly supporting this initiative:

  • Gold Coast District, Domestic and Family Violence Taskforce
  • Gold Coast District, Police Prosecutions Unit
  • Centacare
  • Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Centre
  • Act for Kids
  • Multicultural Families Organisation
  • Cooper Maloy Legal
  • Police Citizens Youth Club
  • Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast
  • Simply Psychology
  • Nerang Neighborhood Centre

Training for CALD leaders on how best to support community members who experience DV work on the 3R principles of Recognize, Respond, Refer.

Expected Outcomes

  • Approximately 40 community leaders trained in appropriate DV response training to better support CALD DV victims on the Gold Coast
  • To encourage open discussion about DV within the CALD community, a topic which is often seen as taboo and not willingly discussed
  • The profile of DV and community services / stakeholders above increased within the CALD community
  • Compile and share findings to assist GCD Police to deliver our services in a more appropriate way understanding the intricacies of CALD DV incidences.
  • Since these events, the Southport DV Magistrates court and some above stakeholders have seen an increase in CALD clients presenting to their services, a possible result of the increased knowledge of rights, services and support available to victims within the CALD community due to the training.

As per below flyer, please attend these FREE remaining DV information sessions being held on August 1, October 3 and November 14.
