Assault charges, Surfers Paradise

Police have charged a 27-year-old man following an alleged assault inside a licensed premises at Surfers Paradise this morning.

Investigations indicate that about 3am a disturbance occurred on the dance floor involving the man and two 18-year-olds – one woman and one man.

Police will allege the incident rapidly escalated into a physical confrontation during which time the woman was punched in the face and a glass thrown at the 18-year-old man, striking him in the face and causing a significant laceration.

Security intervened, escorting both men from the premises, and calling police.

The 18-year-old man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his face.

The woman did not sustain any injuries.

The 27-year-old man from Victoria has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of common assault and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on April 30.

Investigations are continuing.
