Congratulations to Surfers Paradise police officer, Senior Constable Carleen Armour, who was honoured at Currumbin State School on Thursday, December 13 with a very special award.
Senior Constable Armour has worked closely with Kalwun Early Learning Centre during 2018 and on Thursday had the pleasure of watching 15 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students graduate.
“The four year olds who attend this program have thrived in this environment, with the fantastic support of Leilani and Joyce Summers,” Senior Constable Armour said.
“The program is about bridging the gap – getting the kids to school and helping them to enjoy learning, giving them a smooth transition into prep.
“Many of the jarjums (aboriginal word for child) are shy to start with and have not always had positive interactions with police officers.
“It’s great to see them becoming more confident as they go through the program and watching them develop strong cultural connections through their learning.”
