Elanora Police Beat conducting traffic enforcement last night in Tallebudgera detected a vehicle travelling well above the 60 speed limit at 99 km/h.
On speaking to the driver a strong smell of liqour was detected and the driver was subsequently tested with a reading of 0.138 per cent BAC.
This is a very concerning incident as the road is well known for Koala and wildlife traffic.
The capacity for someone to respond to an obstacle at that speed and level of intoxication would be severely hampered and could have devastating consequences.
A vehicle travelling at 100 km/h would take around 98 metres to stop, that is a long distance to travel and would be worse with delayed reactions from being intoxicated,
Ongoing enforcement in the area has seen the number of vehicle speeding detected reduced, however it is very concerning as we enter into the Easter period to see driver behaviour such as this.
Two of the fatal five factors were involved, speed and drink driving.
Police are urging motorists to take care and plan ahead if they are attending functions or events where alcohol is consumed or if they decided to consume alcohol that they have an alternative and suitable method of transport, or safe place to stay.
From losing the privilege to drive, paying fines or worse ending up in a traffic incident, its just not worth it.
The driver was issued with a Notice to Appear in Southport Magistrates court on May 3 and a Traffic infringement notice for $609 and six points.
