Senior Constable Brenda Lee from Jacobs Well Police Beat presenting the ‘ThinkUKnow’ programme at Pimpama State School
The ‘ThinkUKnow’ programme came from the work of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection team in the United Kingdom and now has been developed here for Australian audiences by the Australian Federal Police.
This programme partners with police on other states and stakeholders and it is Australia’s first and only nationally delivered crime prevention program.
The presentations cover issues that could protect you on social media such as:
- how to protect your devices
- how to report matters when things go wrong
- identity theft
- online gaming
- inappropriate content
- privacy management
- sexting
- online grooming
- cyberbullying
One of the schools I recently presented at was Pimpama State School. I spent the day there working through programmes ranging from Prep up to Year 6. The programme however has presentations up to Year 12.
So far, I have used these programmes in the primary schools and found they have been received very well.
The presentations appear to be engaging with audiences well. Feedback received from Year 1 -2 programme such as ‘ Year 1-2 programme was suitable for the students at their level.
I have attended schools already around the Gold Coast and more bookings are received weekly.
