Gold Coast police investigating an overnight dangerous driving incident at Tugun are appealing for witnesses.
Around midnight police attended the intersection of Kitchener and Marion streets in relation to a report of a man acting aggressively in the street.
A silver sedan sped off when police arrived heading north along Coolangatta Road.
It will be alleged the vehicle travelled at speed along Stewart Road and towards the Pacific Motorway overpass with the driver failing to stop when police attempted to intercept the car.
The vehicle crashed through a front fence of a house in Boyd Street and was located by patrolling police a short time later.
The male driver fled on foot, running into the waterway of a nearby housing complex.
A police dog tracked the driver around the lake, through bush land, parks and residential buildings before finding him in the car park of a local hospital.
The man again ran from police with the police dog giving chase and biting him on the thigh. The man received treatment for a minor puncture wound.
A 37-year-old Tugun man has been charged with dangerous driving of a motor vehicle, evade police, driving while under the influence of liquor or a drug and unlicensed driving.
He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
Investigating police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a silver sedan driving in the Tugun and Coolangatta areas around midnight last night, and especially in Kitchener, Marion, Coolangatta and Boyd streets, to contact Crime Stoppers.
