Officers from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad have charged a man in Townsville as a result of the closure of major drug operation Kilo Zurich on the Gold Coast earlier last month.

It will be alleged that the man was one of a number of mules responsible for 15 trips on domestic airlines, transporting over 403 kilograms of cannabis for the criminal organisation.

The man had been arrested earlier in the operation following an alleged attempt to convey 10 kilograms of the drug to a Townsville based distributor.

A 30-year-old man from Maudsland has been charged with trafficking dangerous drugs as a member of a criminal organisation under the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment legislation.

It is expected that he will appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

This arrest brings the total number of people charged out in relation to Operation Kilo Zurich to 27 offenders on 68 charges.
