Police are at the scene of a fatal unit fire which occurred at Frank Street at Southport in the early hours of this morning.
Around 4.40am police were called after a local resident saw smoke coming from a nearby unit.
Emergency services attended but the unit was engulfed in flames.
During the course of extinguishing the fire a woman was located deceased inside the unit.
The unit was completely destroyed and slight damage was caused to a neighbouring unit.
During the incident around 10 people from the unit complex had to be evacuated but have since been allowed back into their units.
Police will conduct forensic examinations at the scene throughout the day as their investigations continue into the cause of the fire.
