Injuries to police, Surfers Paradise

Two officers were injured in two separate incidents early this morning in Surfers Paradise.

About 1.45am, police were called to Orchid Avenue in response to a disturbance.  As police attempted to control the situation, a male officer was allegedly punched in the face and rendered unconscious.

The constable from Surfers Paradise Division was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for observations and later released.

A 22-year-old Western Australian man was apprehended at the scene and is scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today, to face charges of serious assault of a police officer whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, obstruct police and public nuisance.

A 20-year-old Logan Central man has been charged with obstruct police and 21-year-old Western Australian man has been charged with disorderly on licensed premises, obstruct police and public nuisance.  They are both scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.

In a separate incident at about 3.15am, police were called to reports of an assault in the vicinity of the Hilton Arcade, Surfers Paradise.  Upon arrival at the scene, three men ran from police and were pursued on foot.

A male officer, whilw in the process of apprehending one of the suspects, received a laceration to his forearm.  The Surfers Paradise officer was transported to Pindarra Hospital for treatment.  The injury was not as a consequence of an assault.

A 21-year-old Victorian man has been charged with obstruct police and public nuisance and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
