Gold Coast Police seeking Volunteers In Policing (VIP)

The Gold Coast Police District is seeking to expand its Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program.

This program involves local volunteers working with police to address customer service, community safety and crime prevention needs in the community. VIPs undertake a range of duties which may include –

  • Letterbox drops of crime alerts at identified hot spots
  • Lock it or lose it campaigns at identified steal from motor vehicle hot spots
  • Liaising with community groups and participating in community based activities
  • Conducting home and business security audits and property identification/engraving
  • Participating in crime prevention initiatives
  • Displays at shows, fetes, community events

Sergeant Holly James, Officer In Charge Gold Coast District Crime Prevention has stated that “volunteers in policing provide a valuable support role to police across a wide range of duties’.

Vacancies exist for VIPs at Robina, Palm Beach, Broadbeach, Southport and Surfers Paradise Stations.

To be eligible applicants must be:

  • 18 years of age or over
  • willing to participate in a 4 day mandatory training program
  • prepared to participate in the VIP program for at least 12 months
  • willing to work a minimum of 4 hours per week and a maximum of 16 hours per week
  • agree to the Queensland Police Service conducting a national criminal history check

Applications must be received by the close of business Friday 10 May 2013.
