Senior Constable Kurt Foessel and Palm Beach NHW 7 coordinator Di Hoogendoorn
Through the dedication of our officers at the Elanora Police Beat and the commitment and support of the local community we have launched three (3) new Neighbourhood Watch Groups in 2014.
The assistance NHW groups provide in combating crime and making local communities safer cannot be understated. In gauging the effectiveness of these community partnerships with the police we looked at crime in these local areas, and have seen a 70 percent drop in reported burglaries during 2014 when compared with 2013. Even more compelling was that two of the newly launched NHW Group areas have remained crime free during the 2015 period.
The local residents and police working in partnership is certainly a vital factor in these great results for community safety in our local area.
We have several youth programs operating from the Elanora Police Beat and work hand in hand with Palm Beach Police Station, and whenever possible utilise the resources provided to us from the Gold Coast District.
We have a good rapport with our community and regularly get phone calls, people dropping in or stopping us at the shops to talk to us about something happening in their street.
We are about to start another Neighbourhood Watch Group south from Palm Beach Avenue to Sarawak Avenue which we hope to have as our first Facebook group.
It will still possess the traditional NHW values but give more people access digitally.
We think there is still more room for new NHW particularly in the Lakewoods Estate Elanora, and the North Palm Beach area.
