Gold Coast detectives of the Northern Investigative Group had a busy weekend responding to two unrelated incidents involving knives over the weekend, ensuring incidents of this nature are not tolerated, and offenders will be held accountable.
The first incident occurred about 8.30pm last Friday evening at a hotel in the Labrador area. A man was arrested for a string of charges including unlawful wounding on a security guard, who was admitted to hospital for the alleged serious injuries inflicted by a cane knife. The 58-year-old Bilambil Heights NSW man will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on May 28.
The second incident involved a woman hiring a taxi, and then allegedly demanding
money as she held a kitchen knife to the driver. Occurring in Surfers Paradise at approximately 1.15am on Saturday morning, the incident was observed by a concerned citizen, who helped quickly direct police to a woman hiding on the beach. The small amount of coins stolen from the taxi driver, now results in the 18-year-old Surfers Paradise woman finding herself behind bars on armed robbery charges, until May 4 where she will appear in Southport Magistrates Court.
