Police are investigating after a motorcycle allegedly evaded police before crashing near a canal in Surfers Paradise last night.
Initial inquiries indicate around 10.30pm police attempted to intercept a motorcycle on Sunset Boulevard when it failed to stop and continued into Sunrise Boulevard.
Officers pulled their marked-vehicle over before searching for the motorcycle on foot.
A short time later, police located the motorcycle on a footpath at the end of the cul-de-sac before noticing the male rider in the canal.
The officers immediately retrieved the man from the water and commenced first aid.
The 34-year-old Nerang man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
