Next week Elanora Police Beat Youth Engagement Officer Laci Christiaen will be starting a new program ‘Create’ at Palm Beach Currumbin High School with kids with learning disabilities.

Create is designed to develop their skills in self confidence, peer pressure, bullying and self regulation. Some of the sessions will involve the use of art therapy, videos and group chats. The school identified that some of the kids were easily influenced by others and so the program was developed in conjunction with Laci and the school.

The current program will have around 10 participants and will run for five weeks.

“We hope they will complete the program being able to make positive choices and not being misled by negative peer pressure,” Laci said.

Other programs run at the school include Flourish for teenage girls, BIF (Boxing Imagination Focus) boys group and a new program called ‘Drumbeat’ targeting behaviours, emotion, attitude and teamwork.
