Gold Coast Police are searching for a man who installed homemade numberplates on a vehicle to steal petrol from several local service stations in the past 12 months.
The man has attached a fake numberplate, complete with crooked numbers and letters, to a white Mitsubishi Pajero four-wheel-drive before filling up with large amounts of diesel and driving off without paying.
He has failed to pay for fuel on at least six occasions in the last 12-months from petrol stations in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach Waters, Southport and Ashmore.
The man uses a false registration of 172 GHI attached to the white Mitsubishi Pajero which has roof racks and a front bull bar.
Police have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist them with their inquiries into the matter.
Service Station operators can report incidents electronically by completing an online ‘Fuel Drive-Off Form’ or by contacting Policelink on 131 444.
