Whilst investigating a separate matter, Elanora Police Beat located a number of photos of a young person vandalising a building. When confronted, it was identified that the photographs were taken at a local school during the holidays.

The actual offender was subsequently identified and readily admitted to committing the graffiti. It is quite disheartening when dealing with random acts of damage like this, but it is very encouraging to see a young person put their hand up and admit their wrongs, we can work with that. We were all young once and have made mistakes and the best way to deal with things is to be honest.

What started out as a bit of innocent skateboarding resulted in damage to the school. The damage amounted to around $5,000 in total.

In addition to facing a wilful damage charge, consideration will be given to trespassing charges as well.  Under the Education Act, it is an offence to be on school grounds without permission. Apprehending and prosecuting offenders for these incidents helps to keep our damage to schools at a very low level.

If you want to report an incident in a school you can call ‘School Watch’ on 131 788 or Policelink on 131 444.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
