A man and a woman have been arrested over a number of serious offences on the Gold Coast in the early hours of this morning.

Around 5.15am police were conducting street checks on a man and a woman in a car on the Esplanade at Paradise Point when it was discovered the 43-year-old man was wanted for questioning by police.

At this time the pair became violent with the woman grabbing at a police radio from an officer and attempting to take another officer’s gun.

The couple drove off in the car and struck a tree before reversing and hitting the side of the police vehicle. The car continued travelling south along Bayview Street.

The car was observed to travel into Huon Avenue at Runaway Bay before the pair ran into a nearby residence.

Police entered the residence and located the couple hiding inside the house where they were arrested. The occupants of the house did not know the couple.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
