Police are appealing for witnesses to a traffic crash in Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Around 5pm a stolen car was travelling south on the Gold Coast Highway and crashed through a metal fence on the median strip separating the lanes near its intersection with Thrower Drive.
A section of the fence fell down into oncoming traffic on the northbound lanes, striking a motorcycle. The rider, a 55-year-old Palm Beach man, was trapped under his bike and hit his head on the road.
A passenger, a 54-year-old Tugan, woman riding in the pillion escaped with minor injuries.
Both were transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the car – a 43-year-old Surfers Paradise woman and a 30-year-old Pacific Pines Man – were detained by members of the public after they exited the car and attempted to hide stolen property in a nearby tree.
The pair are now assisting police with their enquiries.
