A 63-year-old woman was left bruised, and lying in the middle of the road, after struggling with a man trying to steal her handbag at Carrara this afternoon.
Around 4.10pm the Victorian woman was standing next to her vehicle, which was parked in Eastlake Street, when a man approached her and telling her that she had a flat tyre.
When the woman bent down to inspect the tyre the man grabbed her handbag and tried to run off. The woman held onto the bag, which was over her shoulder, and was dragged approximately 15 to 20 metres before she let go.
She was treated at the scene for grazes, bruises and small lacerations to her back, arms, legs, feet and ankles.
The man jumped into an awaiting white vehicle, being driven by another man, and they fled the scene.
The woman lost cash, credit cards, mobile phone and personal items.
The man is described as having a dark complexion, approximately 170cms tall and possibly aged in his early 20s. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper.
