The South Eastern Police Region is publicly recognising one winner, one award recipient and 16 officers who were nominated in four of the 10 categories in the recent Queensland Women in Policing Awards.
The 2016 Queensland Women in Policing Awards aim to identify and acknowledge the achievements of members of the Queensland Police Service who have contributed in improving the standing of women in the Service.
Over 100 women across the state were nominated including the 16 officers from the Region, with two officers being presented with an award in their categories.
Assistant Commissioner South Eastern Region, Brian Codd said the awards are an opportunity to publicly acknowledge and reward the achievements of women in the service.
“I would like to extend my congratulations on behalf of the Region to all of the nominees, and the two members who were recognised in their categories,” Assistant Commissioner Codd said.
Trailblazer Award
This award is only open to individual women who have paved the way for women who follow and encouraged and supported other women in policing or law enforcement to develop their skills and abilities.

Mentor of the Year Award
This award is only open to individual women who are viewed as a role model to women, men and the wider law enforcement community.
Courage Award
This award is open to women who have resolved a situation or series of incidents to protect others who may also find themselves in the same situation in the future.
Most Outstanding Female Leader
This award acknowledges individual women who have shown dynamic and innovative leadership, mentored and provided guidance to others, particularly women.
Most Outstanding Female Investigator
This award recognises female police officers who have tangibly improved how criminal investigations respond to crimes against the community and/or how they interact with female offenders.

Most Outstanding Female Administrator
This award is acknowledges women in policing who have provided effective and gender sensitive administrative, policy development, management, human resource management, or information and communications technology support to policing or law enforcement.
Excellence in Policing for Women Initiatives
This is awarded to women who have had a significant and positive impact on how women in the community are able to access the justice system through policing.
The winner of this award was Senior Sergeant Peta Jordan, Tactician Performance Logan District.
Acting Sergeant Larissa Shaw, Domestic & Family Violence Coordinator Beenleigh was presented with the Highly Commended award for this category.
Excellence in Research on Improving Policing for Women
The winner recognises individuals whose research is contemporary, original and of publishable quality.
Champion of Change Award
This is an award that acknowledges individuals who have had a significant impact in changing workplace culture and mindset to empower women and men to advance gender equality.
