Alison Busch

Constable Alison Busch joined the team at the Southport Watchhouse one year ago after previously working at Southport Station.

Alison says she enjoys working in a close knit team environment at the watchhouse and the challenges in dealing with high risk prisoners.

“Each day is challenging and requires practical thinking,” Alison said.

Her role involves assisting officers entering the watchhouse with people recently arrested, assisting the medical team at the watchhouse, working in the court, monitoring prisoner’s health and behaviour, and many other associated duties.

As a mum, Alison still works 24/7 in a full time, three shift roster balancing work and family commitments, with twins who are 11-years-old and attend primary school on the Gold Coast. The twins are proud of their mum being a police officer and curious about the work she performs in the watchhouse.

Outside of work Alison says she runs a personal taxi service for the twins, taking them to school, karate and soccer. The school trip alone can take her an hour for a round trip.

Alison said it is easier now the twins have grown older, but the arguments between twins (who both train for karate), can be brutal so she can practice her hand defense techniques at home. To this day her twins remain as “thick as thieves” but as long as they continue to respect their mother, things should be fine.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the other mums in our community.
