Assault charges, Chevron Island

Police have charged a man with a number of offences following an incident in Chevron Island last night.

Around 9.40pm, police were called to an address on Thomas Drive following reports of a disturbance.

On arrival, it will be alleged that a man assaulted a woman, and as police attempted to restrain the man, he has bitten a female Constable on her hand.

It will be further alleged that while the man was being transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in an ambulance, he has bitten a paramedic on the hand.

A 20-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

The 31-year-old Constable sustained a wound to one of her fingers and will undergo disease testing.

The 37-year-old male paramedic did not sustain any injuries.

A 22-year-old Chevron Island man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police, serious assault public officer, and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, July 18.
