Police Minister Mark Ryan and Gold Coast District Superintendent Craig Hanlon today launched a competition to help change behaviour and raise awareness about alcohol-fuelled violence.
A review of assault offences over a two-year period in the Gold Coast District in and around licensed premises identified male university students and male trade workers, aged between 22 and 26, as being at a high risk in both offender and victim categories for alcohol-related violence.
Superintendent Hanlon said the competition was aimed at the target demographic to help change their attitude to alcohol-fuelled violence.
“Entrants are asked to submit original multimedia content that captures a strong message to help change behaviour and raise awareness on alcohol-fuelled violence,” Superintendent Hanlon said.
“The aim is to help reduce alcohol-fuelled violence incidents and engage the target demographic to think about consequences by using peer-to-peer messaging.”
The winning entry will feature on the QPS social media channels and myPolice sites, and be used in crime prevention presentations.
The competition is open to Gold Coast District tertiary and trade students along with Gold Coast District year 11/12 (and equivalent) students.
Prizes to be won include a Da Vinci Pro 3D Printer, Oppo R11 Plus mobile phone, a 128GB Apple iPad and Beats by Dre Headphones.
