Vehicle security

Over the past few days we have had an increase in the number of cars being broken into within the Runaway Bay division.

Whilst the actual number is not high, from experience we know that if we make it easy for criminals, they have a tendency to return and also pass this information onto associates.

There are a few simple things that people can do to help prevent their vehicles and/or their valuables being stolen from vehicles:

  • Lock doors
  • Ensure windows are up
  • Not have valuables on display
  • Don’t park vehicles in vulnerable positions and
  • Use anti – theft devices ie steering locks, alarms, engine immobilisers etc

Place valuables in the boot, glove box, centre console or under blankets so thieves aren’t tempted to target your vehicle.

Do not leave keys under the seat, under wheel arches or in the ignition.

Park your vehicle in an area where there is natural surveillance e.g. near shopping centre entrances and high pedestrian traffic areas.

Do not park in isolated or dark areas.

Consideration should also be given to have your vehicle identification number etched onto a window.

Police within the Runaway Bay Division will continue to focus patrols in order to reduce these types of offences and request motorists to report any suspicious behaviour, suspicious vehicles, or any other unusual occurrence to police.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.

You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, by calling 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per day.
