More than 57 police officers and staff working on the Gold Coast have been recognised for their service, during a ceremony at the Upper Coomera Community Centre this morning.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Stephen Hollands presented medals and clasps to officers and staff members who have individually dedicated up to 40 years of their lives to serving the people of Queensland.
The award recipients represent a wide spectrum of policing duties including: general duties stations, road policing, district duty officers, water police, police citizens youth clubs, education and training, criminal investigation branch, police prosecutions forensic services, and child protections and investigation.
Among the award recipients were former officers Inspector Tony Marks and Senior Sergeant Wally Siganto who received the 40 year clasp to the Queensland Police Service medal.
“These two men have given a lifetime of service to the people of Queensland, and in particular the Gold Coast,” said Acting Assistant Commissioner Hollands.
“Tony served across the Gold Coast in a wide variety of locations and appointments including at the Gold Coast Water Police, Broadbeach Station, as a Regional Duty Officer and as a District Inspector.
“The Siganto name is synonymous with the Coomera area, and it is fitting that Wally finished his policing career as the Officer in Charge of the Coomera Police Station.”
Acting Assistant Commissioner Hollands was also one of the awardees, receiving the 35 year clasp to the Queensland Police Service medal.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Stephen Hollands said the quality of the police working in the Gold Coast District was a strong reflection of the QPS.
“I am pleased to acknowledge the loyalty and dedication of all awardees who have displayed their commitment to the community.”
