Elanora Police Beat and the Palm Beach Lions and Lioness Club have been in a long term partnership providing breakfast on a Monday morning at the Elanora Primary School.
The breakfast was an initiative I started to help me get to know the kids and parents in the community. Every week the Lions prepare 15 to 18 loaves of bread with jam or vegemite, bowls of cereal and about 12 litres of milk.
The Lions really are champions when it comes to conducting the breakfast and do an amazing job. Occasionally I assist in the preparation but mostly I get to talk to the kids and sometimes the parents.
It really helps to break down the barriers between the kids and the perception that the cops are out to get them. Kids who have breakfast often have improved behaviour in class. It’s so great to see the interaction between Police, the children and also the Lions Club members.
Quite often parents will pull me to the side and ask me a question or talk about an issue in their street, the kids just want to know about my gun and taser. I am very grateful for the support of the school and in particular the Palm Beach Lions and Lioness Club for their ongoing support.
