Police have charged a man and impounded his vehicle after a series of alleged hooning incidents in Surfers Paradise this week.

On Wednesday just before 1am it will be alleged that a man in a Nissan Skyline sedan made rude gestures and performed a burn out in front of the Surfers Paradise Police Station on Orchid Avenue.

Around 7.30pm on the same day, the driver is alleged to have excessively revved his engine creating smoke and noise on Surfers Paradise Boulevard and did the same again yesterday around the same time on Hanlan Street.

A 32-year-old Ipswich man has been charged with eight dangerous operation of motor vehicle related offences and has had his vehicle impounded for 90 days.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

Senior Sergeant Laurie Shevlin of Surfers Paradise Police station said the result was an excellent example of how the City of Gold Coast Safety Camera Network and Gold Coast Police work together to keep the community safe.

“The incidents were captured on the City safety cameras and subsequent police investigations resulted in the offender being identified, located and arrested without further endangering the public.”

“Surfers Paradise police are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community and this type of behaviour won’t be tolerated, especially in built-up areas where pedestrians and other road users are put at risk.” Senior Sergeant Shevlin said.
