Police are appealing for urgent assistance to identify an injured male surfer pulled from the water just south of Kirra Beach shortly before midday.
The man was surfing near Kirra Groin when he experienced difficulties and was recovered from the water. He has since been transported to hospital in a serious condition.
He was carrying no identification and police are appealing for urgent assistance to identify him so they can notify family of the incident.
He is described as 25-30 years of age, about 180-185cm tall with long, light brown hair, light facial hair (stubble), of a muscular build and is wearing grey boardshorts.
A photograph has been released of the “Finch” brand surfboard the man was using.
Anyone who recognizes the surfboard is asked to immediately contact Coolangatta Police on 5589 8444, or Policelink on 131 444 or Crimestoppers.
Police are also asking for anyone who saw the man surfing to contact them.
